DOM COOPER, sound artist

Dom Cooper is a California-based musician, artist, composer, and performer, whose practice is based around the voice. He is a co-founder of SdNVW (The San Diego New Verbal Workshop), an experimental community choir. His composition ‘Labyrinthine’ was performed by the choir at Project Blank’s ‘Working Title’ in 2024.

For the last seven years, he has been a student of the cult Irish band United Bible Studies. Accolades include headlining the TUSK and SPILL festivals and appearing in Mojo magazine’s top experimental albums of 2021.

Originally from the UK, he was a member of the Musarc choir. Notable performances include The BBC Proms with Neil Luck, The London Contemporary Festival, and the Leuven Artefact Festival. He was also a member of both Cafe Oto’s Experimental and Folk Choirs, who performed works with Annea Lockwood, Sarah Davachi, WIDT, and Áine O’Dwyer.

Initially self-taught, he has studied with Todd Barton, and workshopped with David Toop, Robert Aiki Aubrey Lowe, and Eartheater. Other projects and bands include Circle/Temple, The Owl Service, Bare Bones, and The Straw Bear Band. Notable performances include The Greenman Festival, Supersonic Festival, and The Scala.
