JANET ASUNCION, kulintang

A proud native of San Diego, Janet Asuncion is a musician with the Pakaraguian Kulintang Ensemble and an advocate for preserving and celebrating the cultural traditions of the Southern Philippines. At the heart of her artistic journey lies the enchanting melodies of the kulintang, a centuries old traditional ensemble of eight brass knobbed gongs that are played during social gatherings, to court other people, to gossip, in ritual ceremonies, and in storytelling.

Janet is committed to sharing the beauty and significance of kulintang music with her local community. Through workshops, educational outreach, and cultural events, she seeks to foster a deeper understanding and appreciation for this cherished ancestral art form.

Through her performances, she invites audiences on a transcendent journey, where the evocative sounds of the kulintang echo the spirit and traditions of the Southern Philippines.
