MATTHEW HENSON, double bass

MATTHEW HENSON is a double bassist, conductor, and music theorist, from Kennesaw, Georgia.  Currently, he is a DMA student in Contemporary Double Bass Performance at the University of California San Diego.  He earned his Bachelor of Music in Double Bass Performance at New England Conservatory, studying with Mr. Todd Seeber, with a minor in contemporary music theory and applied composition, collaborating with Mr. Efstratios Minakakis.  More recently, he earned his Master of Music at the University of California San Diego under the instruction of Mr. Mark Dresser.  As a bassist, Matthew has performed solo recitals, been principal of the Boston Civic Symphony, and performed with numerous professional and collegiate groups.  As a conductor, he has been the cover conductor for Symphony New Hampshire and conducted student ensembles.  As a theorist, he explores modern redefinitions of sound, form, and instrumental technique, as well as music which follows generative processes.
